The Unionized Senior and Junior staff of the Ghana Workers Union has kicked against the appointment of a third Deputy Managing Director in charge of Special Projects for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

In a statement by the Union, they resolved that "the appointment of a Deputy Managing Director (Special Projects) is a needless duplication of duties and a recipe for confusion at the top hierarchy of the company. The financial cost associated with the appointment however the quantum is an avoidable cost".
" . . the appointment of a third DMD (Special Projects) when there is one for Operations and another for Finance and Administration is not in line with best practices for corporate governance," they further stated.
According to Peace FM's Reporter Deborah Agyei Amponsah's interview with the National Divisional Chairman Senior Staff of the GWCL, there are concerns that the appointment will amount to duplication of duties because "the company as it exists now has two Deputy Managing Directors, one in charge of Operations and the other in charge of Finance and Administration".
They appealed to the authorities to "as a matter of urgency to take a second and critical look at the appointment of a DMD (Special Projects) for GWCL" in order to ensure harmony and engender good industrial atmosphere.
