Controversial Ghanaian Politician and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is crying over abnormal duty charges at the port on goods imported into the nation.
According to him, his goods worth $4m are locked at the port and there is no way he is getting money to pay due to the exorbitant duties which the port officials are demanding from him.
The loudmouthed Member of Parliament disclosed this during an interview on the Tuesday 18th December 2018’s segment of Adom TV.
“I have imported goods worth 4 million dollars, the duties on the goods is 800 million dollars. How do you create an enabling environment for businesses with this? I have sent copies of the import duties to the Vice President. He was also shocked. In fact, I will not be able to clear the goods, where will I get the money from?” he enquired.
“As a country, we have to think about the Dubai and Singapore way where we reduce import duties to give room for businessmen to import more and sell more to enable the government rake in more taxes. It is not prudent to pile pressure on the few importers with higher taxes,” he said.
He, therefore, used the opportunity to send a strong warning to the ruling government, NPP to take the necessary steps should they ever want to remain in power.

Please is the import duty on the goods $800.00 million (dollars) or Ghc800.00 million cedis? This must be clarified. I am saying this because there is no way an import duty on $4 million goods could be $800 million., how on earth can this happen?
Is this the same man who is always bragging about how rich he is? You have been in parliament all these years and you have no understanding of why your country is not moving forward economically. When you keep importing items into the country that could be manufactured or assembled in the country, all you are doing is depleting your foreign currency reserves and creating employment in the country you are importing from whilst your teaming youth remain unemployed. He should decide if he wants to be a civil servant by remaining in politics or become a true businessman. Hiding behind politics to gain contracts and beneficial information is a cowards way of becoming recognized. After all these years in parliament and so called business he has not been able to bring even a single factory to his constituency to manufacture something as simple as toothpick.
Kennedy is not telling us the whole truth.Let him tell us more.
Keep quiet and go and pay!! You say you have money than all Ghanaians put together. This small amount and yo are wailing like that.
counties don't get money by allowing more import and selling of imported products, counties make money by production. I bet he was not in parliament when the customs amendment act (905) was passed on December 30, 2015. They are in power, he should rather go to parliament to change the law and not shouting on radio. HE WHO FEELS IT KNOWS IT
LOL.YOU ARE RICHMAN ABI?GHANA IS WORKING AGAIN.IF YOU FORGET LET ME KINDLY REMIND YOU MONEY AINT SH....T,DOES IT SOUND FAMILIAR IN YOUR EARS?deal with it.
