Investigative journalist, Manasseh Awuni Azure, has praised former President John Dramani Mahama for his ‘exceptional’ tolerance of his critics and political opponents.
He said although his work as an investigative journalist hurt the political ambitions of the former President and his government, “his reception and level of tolerance has been exceptional.”
Azure’s investigative work on GYEEDA, SADA and the Ford Expedition caused a political storm which some political connoisseurs say contributed to the fall of the Mahama administration after only one-term.
However, the investigative journalist said he was never antagonised by the former President whenever he met him.
He said he contacted the former President John Mahama while writing the book seeking clarification on some of the issues raised in the book.
He said while former President Mahama did not agree with him on some portions of the book, he was emphatic that he would defend his (Manasseh’s)right to write the book.
He urged the country’s journalists to be bold and fearless in telling those governing the country when they are right or wrong.
Azure revealed, some people have shied away from the launch because of the title of the book, ‘The Fourth John’.
Earlier, the Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketia V, rallied Ghanaian leaders to write.
“We need to write to appreciate a greater understanding of the country,” Nana Nketiah who was the Chairman for the occasion said.
While encouraging people to put ink to paper, he also urged Ghanaian journalists to have a moral compass.
“You cannot be a journalist without a moral compass. It is your moral compass that will direct you to write,” he said.

It is amazing how Azure thinks shear "Neutrality" is a virtue! A great man once said in the matter of the oppressed and the oppressor, choosing neutrality is taking the side of the oppressor. If Mahama caused GYEEDA, SADA, SUBA etc; and assuming Akuffo Addo has done something similar, does it mean all of a sudden Mahama gets purged of all the atrocities you Azure reported as matters of fact? You should be able to critize both in equal measure to show you're on the side of truth. That's the most important - the side of Truth, not neutrality. What kind of self-serving journalism is this - that people should see you as "neutral"? No you can't be neutral - you're self-servling!
Azure, hope you don’t mean to part your back even if you are wrong, why don’t you also accept the fact that you can get things wrong sometimes, and should be ready to accept it in good faith, you can’t always be right.. the investigation you did concerning vigilante activity at the castle was a big liee, and should have accepted that you made mistakes.
Ah Manasseh paa...the things you were saying about the man were true so why should he be agitated towards you???? It is usually when you peddle falsehood about someone that he/she becomes/is agitated
Shame on you azure, you swing between parties to feather your own corrupt interest and I find you opportunist, also not credible and I see you as academically bankrupt and a prostituting journalist, you have done a disservice to journalism in Ghana shame on you.
Na lie. Not true.
Absolutely boggus.
Mahama committed the crimes you accused him of. You are only trying to paint a good picture of yourself that it is not only Mahama but you are criticizing everyone. You have list your integrity among the elites. Let me remind you that no one renounced with money. True leaders renounced with their talents and gifts in them. Mahama used money to win the primaries which is against the will of the internationals and the founders of the party. Only people with mediocre minds will buy your books. You have failed in your career. Mahama's NDC can not and will not win election in Ghana
Great guy and a great journalist; internationally recognized. Journalists have a sacred duty to fearlessly shed light on the darkest excesses of corrupt regimes and no one has done that better than Manasseh and Anas. I am immensely proud of you. It goes against the norm these days where some journalists sell their conscience by doing the bidding of the highest bidder, and using the proceeds to put up mansions which they blasphemously claim is 'devine blessings'.
