National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu Ampofu has cautioned that government be up and doing about ensuring justice in the case involving murdered undercover journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale or risk facing dire consequences subsequently.
According to him, the recent deaths are one too many to be taken lightly or danced about. Citing the deaths of the Ghana Water Company Ltd., Ghana Ports and Habours, and Tiger Eye officials, he said aggrieved parties may be forced to take the law into their own hands to achieve justice if the various stakeholders sit aloof or trivialize the issues.
“We are appalled by recent developments and the killings that have been taking place. For the past two weeks or so, we have a senior officer of the Ghana Company Limited murdered, only last week, the Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Ports has been murdered and only yesterday, this investigative journalist has been murdered in such a bizarre manner. We believe these are very disturbing signs for the security of the country and the security of the country is entrusted into the hands of the President who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces so we are holding the President responsible that our security is in his hands”
“The responsibility is on the police. The police and other security agencies have the responsibility to ensure that they protect the citizens of the country and when situations like this happen, we expect the police to investigate and bring the culprits to book. I have said that sitting Member of Parliament has been murdered, up till now, no clue, several people have died including chiefs including journalists, including public officers and it is going on and on”.
“If we are not careful, people will lose confidence in the security system and if people lose confidence in the security systems and decide to take the laws into their own hands, we’ll have a problem that is why we are urging government and appealing to the government that they must up their game”, he said in an exclusive interview with Ghanaweb after Ahmed Suale’s burial Friday.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo was emphatic about the implications of such acts on journalism and the ability to stand for the truth. According to him, it amounts to intimidation which ultimately will compromise journalism and sanity in the country.
“Today if you cannot feel safe driving in your car on the highways, you may have security at your house, in your office but if even driving in traffic, you can be gunned down by people on motor bikes then everybody is at risk”
“It has its own ramifications because we know the work that Tiger Eye is dong and they are doing international jobs not only confined to Ghana and we know that their investigation into this football and soccer scandal has brought reforms not only in Ghana but the whole of the African continent and so it is something we need to do; protect journalists especially investigative journalists like the one who has died now otherwise if intimidation and these tactics are adopted against these journalists and journalism dies then we are in trouble”.

I am not a politician, so stop referring to me as a member of any party. Why do people always think if you speak against ndc then you belong to the npp, and if you speak against npp then you are ndc. Do they think there are no neutral individuals in the country? You can keep doing your petty politics but don't read political meaning into everything people say.
Imma, you talk as if nothing of this sort happens when your party NDC was in power. We saw many deaths under Mills/Mahana Administration. Nobody is happy about this innocent youngman's death but. Let's stop the politicization of this issue and allow the Police to do their job and I know those who did this would be apprehended to face the law. Stop being hypocrite.
God speaks in still small voice. When nana addo said all die be die, God was indirectly showing us what we might end up getting in case we voted for him. God also used Kofi Koomsom to warned us about the consequences of electing such a dangerous man to lead us. Whatever God was telling us then is exactly what we are witnessing. Even before he became president two of his own party members were gruesomely murdered. One was acid bathed and the other was stabbed. Not forgetting how he hounded Afoko, Kwabena and Crabbe out of their legitimate elected positions. The man is seriously dangerous. Do you remember his current CID boss once saying, A Plus should tone down because if he didn't, his clamor would make nana addo's government look bad? Can you imagine this! A CID boss making such a despicable statement, how can anyone trust her to do a good job. Do you remember the scam arrest of kwesi nyantakyi! Several months after the so called arrest of nyantakyi, he is neither before court nor even seeing the police. He is walking free for using the president name for personal gains. Has anyone thought about how the president keeps exonerating his ministers who had been alleged to be corrupt? How can a president who is a lawyer keep preempting result of investigations, saying investigations would not end anywhere, thus emboldening his appointees and those like minded to flout the laws of the land with impunity because they know the president will shield them. No wonder Martin Amidu has not killed even a fly since taken office a year ago. Investigation into the murder of this journalist may not end anywhere considering the posture of the CID boss and our president. JB Danquah has been murdered three years ago, up till now the case is still not decided because the attorney general is playing around with it. God save Ghana.
