Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has slammed both the New Patriotic Party(NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the pockets of violence witnessed at some registration centers of the ongoing limited registration exercise.
The Electoral Commission began its limited registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, to register those who have just turned 18 years and those who couldn’t get their names into the voters’ register during the last exercise.
This year’s exercise will end on Monday, May 27.
The exercise was anticipated to be violence-free but the outcome at some centers has been different from what is expected.
There have been reports of some registrants engaging in fisticuffs and wielding guns and knives to fight their opponents.
Addressing the issue during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. condemned the violent acts wondering why a simple exercise for writing names would turn chaotic.
To him, the leaders of the political parties, particularly the ruling and main opposition parties, are to blame.
He called for decorum and a change of attitude, fearing what would happen during the general elections on December 7 if nothing is done to curb the current disturbances at the registration centers.
“It’s about time our leaders respected Ghanaians and understood that elections are not about manipulation but rather an election to improve Ghana,” he admonished.
Mr. Pratt also took a swipe at the Electoral Commission for its officials recording some mathematical errors in the tabulation of its figures.
“These errors in the results by the Electoral Commission, how do you explain it? We’ve gone to register names. We have the tallies; simple addition, the Electoral Commission cannot do it . . . I can’t understand this; a whole Electoral Commission cannot do addition. There is no subtraction, division or multiplication and you can’t do this,” he bellowed.
