Justice Srem Sai, a private law practitioner is displeased with President Akufo-Addo’s approach in dealing with petitions requesting for the removal of top state officials.
According to Justice Srem Sai, the conduct of the President in matters of this nature are very disappointing and worrying, adding that, most often than not, there have been petitions laid before the President for consideration but those petitions have been utterly ignored, delayed or subjected to rigorous opposition.
Justice Srem Sai, thus, questions what necessitated the President’s prompt response to the petition requesting the removal of the Special Prosecutor.
He said, “I think the President’s conduct when it comes to petitions for the removal of such high officers of the state has been disappointing. It has been seriously disappointing over the years. There have been petitions which have been sent, and some of them have not been even acknowledged in certain situations.”
“Some of the petitions will be ignored, some of them even take too long to be sent and so many impediments have been put in the way of these petitions right from the office of the President. That’s why it seems to be a legitimate concern when he speedily and efficiently submitted this one and everybody gets the impression that he has a personal interest in this one," he added.
The assertions of Justice Srem Sai comes in the wake of a 30th April petition letter, presented to the President by the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, requesting for the removal of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng.
The petition by the former Attorney general and Minister of justice implored the President to terminate the appointment of the Special prosecutor based on his alleged failure to adhere to information requested by him (Martin Amidu).
The President, hence, forwarded the petition to the Chief Justice for the necessary actions to be taken.
The Chief Justice, in a letter to Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, has asked him to the respond to the allegations leveled against the former Special Prosecutor.
The quick response by the President has evoked some high speculations of his involvement in the petition presented to the office of the President.
