October Congress Won't Be Cancelled...It Will Go On As Planned Kwabena Agyepong

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday engraved his supremacy over six other contenders in the Electoral College of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a whopping 81.28%, leaving his closest rival Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, with 8.01%. Out of 741 ballots cast, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 598 votes with his closest contender Alan Kyerematen obtaining a paltry tally of 59 votes. Addai Nimoh and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Ghartey both obtained 22 votes each while Osei Ameyaw managed 17 votes to pick up the last ticket to the October 18 national delegates conference. Considering the magnitude of Nana Addo's victory, many political pundits have suggested that instead of using party funds to organise another election to select a flagbearer, the rest of the 4 candidates should simply back Nana Addo to go unopposed. To them, the October 18, 2014 National Delegates Conference will be inconsequential because Akufo Addo will still be victorious. But General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong says everything will go on as planned. "The party will go on with its October Conference to elect a flagbearer as the party constitution demands," he remarked and added that we respect our constitution and we thank God for a successful Special Delegates Congress. We will go on to the next stagewe need to allow the process to flow. The General Secretary who was speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", also expressed appreciation to the delegates, police and the Electoral Commission for how successful the partys Super delegates congress turned out. I am glad everything went on smoothly without any hitches, he said.
