The construction of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange has become a tourist attraction in the capital, Accra, according to President John Dramani Mahama. The President, speaking at the 8th National Delegates Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, said the construction had attracted people from all parts of the country to the capital to see the project.�Extensive works are being carried out on our roads all over the country. The Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange project has become a tourist attraction in Accra and many people come and stand to look at the wonderful work that is going on. �If you think that is good enough, the Kasoa Interchange would also be wonderful addition to it,� he added. According to the President, work on other major road projects across the country was steadily progressing or was scheduled to commence soon and that the government was committed to ensuring that they are completed. �Work on the Eastern Corridor road is continuing and work on all other critical roads will start soon. We are starting a $150 million cocoa roads rehabilitation project this year and we are committing $150 million every year for five years to rehabilitate the roads in the Volta, Ashanti, Central, Brong Ahafo, Western and Eastern regions. So we are going to see a dramatic overhaul in the conditions of the roads all over the country,� he said.Major strides in the transport sector President Mahama enumerated other projects being undertaken by his administration, including the recent refurbishment of the Kumasi International Airport.�The aviation sector is expanding and we are upgrading airports all over the country. I was here in Kumasi recently to commission the upgraded facilities in the Kumasi Airport.� �Irrespective of how many videos are shown of me dancing (in reference to a video which surfaced last week), Kumasi Airport has witnessed a considerable facelift far above what it was before we came when [into office],� he opined. The president also stated that work on the expansion of the Takoradi and Tema Ports was in progress. He was hopeful that �when the expansion [of the Takoradi Port] is finished, it will allow more ships to come into the port and will lead to the employment of more than 3,000 young people and we have just signed and MOU between GAPOHA and the Meridian Port services for the expansion of the Tema Port.� The delegates of the NDC have gathered in Kumasi to elect executives to head various positions in the party, including the positions of National Chairman, National Organiser and General Secretary. Among those present at the congress are the former President and founder of the NDC Jerry John Rawlings and the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
