NDC CONGRESS: Portuphy, Kofi Adams Topple Incumbent Kwabena Adjei & Boateng Gyan

In what can best pass for a landslide victory, National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management (NADMO), Kofi Portuphy, and a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams unseated the incumbent National Chairman of the ruling party, Dr. Kwabena Adjei and the National Organiser, Yaw Boateng Gyan respectively. Kofi Portuphy polled a massive 2,457 votes to win National Chairmanship position. Dr. Kwabena Adjei has held the position for two terms. He contested the position together with Dan Abodakpi, a former Minister of State, who polled 508 votes. A fourth aspirant, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, an incumbent Vice Chairman of the party withdrew from the race a few minutes to the commencement of the elections, which took place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday. In another keenly contested national executive position, Kofi Adams virtually swept aside the incumbent, Y.B Gyan, when he polled 2,543 votes against the latter's 734 votes to become the new National Organiser of the NDC. About 3,600 delegates from ten regions across the country took turns to cast their ballots to elect 24 national officers out of the 70 who contested the positions.
