Talensi By-Election: Asiedu Nketia Tips PNC Over NPP

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Asiesdu Nketia has predicted that the People’s National Convention (PNC) will do much better than the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Talensi by-election.

While quite confident that his party's candidate would win an overwhelming victory, the NDC Secretary says he expects the PNC to do better because they have a better campaign.

Speaking on Okay FM Friday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong are in Accra campaigning on radio stations while the NDC national executives are seriously campaigning in Talensi.

Asiedu Nketia claimed that the executives of the largest opposition party have left their campaign in the hands of those who are only engrossed in baseless allegations.

"Their Party Chairman and General Secretary are in Accra granting interviews on radio stations….you cannot sit in Accra and expect to win the Talensi by-election.

“I am on the ground and I can tell you the PNC is even stronger than the NPP” he added.

The Electoral Commission has set July 7, to hold the bye-election in Talensi following the elevation of the Member of Parliament for the area, Robert Mosore to the position of a paramount chief for the Tongo Traditional area.

Following plans to merge the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the PNC, the CPP chairperson Samia Nkrumah and her executives have moved to Talensi to join forces with the PNC to campaign for their candidate, Dr. Micheal Wombeago.

The NDC and the NPP are represented by Benson Tongo Baba and Thomas Doanab Wuni respectively.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia has also dismissed allegations that the NDC is sharing money, bags of fertilizer and other items to the voters in the constituency.

In his view, the NPP are known to be deceitful therefore “everybody should take whatever comes from them with a pinch of salt.”
