The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the time has come for Ghanaians to boot out the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress government in Wednesday’s general elections.
The NPP presidential candidate noted that the majority of Ghanaians were reeling under the current harsh economic conditions.
Nana Addo disclosed this while addressing party faithful in a rally in Accra to round up activities ahead of tomorrow’s elections.
He said, “Mahama and the NDC inherited an economy that was growing without oil from Kufour, this year we are going to have the lowest rate of growth in our history in the last 22 years under the watch of Mahama and he is saying we should give him another four years? He is a threat to the future of our country.”
While promising Ghanaians a corrupt-free government, Nana Addo said, “I will not disappoint the people of Ghana or turn my back on them.”
He emphasized that he would not steal or loot the state coffers but implement sound polices to move Ghana forward, if given the nod.
The NPP presidential candidate said his government would, among others, restore the allowances of nurse and teacher trainees, put new life into adult education and fully implement the free SHS policy.
Defamation
Nana Addo, who is arguably the most maligned presidential candidate in the country’s history, disclosed that “a lot of defamatory things are going to be said about me, my running mate and members of my party, I am pleading with you don’t pay any heed to any of that its utter rubbish, lies and fabrication, I have not killed anybody in this world.”
The NPP presidential candidate described President Mahama’s tribal politics as backward.
“The language of yesterday-tribal incitement coming from President Mahama and his supporters trying to set tribe against tribe, north against north, we are going to have the opportunity to tell him on Wednesday that is not the Ghanaian way, that is not what the people of Ghana want,” he said.
“We are not going to fall victim to tribal politics and backward language.”
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, on his part, said the leaders who fought for the independence of this country came from the NPP.
He said “under six years, the party under my presidency was able to lift Ghana which was a HIPC country from extreme poverty to middle income status.
Mr. Kufuor stated that “time is up, God is showing us the way again, when the time is due God himself appoints a person.”
The people the NPP used to move Ghana from HIPC to a middle income status are the same people Nana Addo is going to use when voted into power, he added.
The former president also noted that God has lifted his hand in the 2016 election, indicating that Ghana will rise again.
He argued that Ghanaians missed the way when the NDC and Mahama were voted into government.
Hope
Freddie Blay, Acting National Chairman of the party, said “All these eight years, you have lived under the Mahama administration you have been tolerant; you have swallowed a whole lot of indignities, it is now only three days. I know we are there, Ebenezer the Lord has brought us this far but don’t be complacent.”
“Every vote is necessary and you should make sure that the results are declared in favour of our presidential candidate Nana Addo and the majority of the MPs….by Thursday Nana Addo should be the president of Ghana”.
Mr. Blay continued: “It’s not a vote for NPP, it’s not a vote for Nana Addo, it’s a vote for Ghana, it’s a vote for change to fight against corruption, greed and divisiveness in our country.”
Mrs. Samira Bawumia reminded the crowd that “on Wednesday when we take our ballot paper, we will remember eight years of corruption, Woyome, SADA, SUBA, bus branding and all the monies they have appropriated unto themselves”
She further noted: “Remember the arrogance of the NDC government and lies, they have insulted doctors, teachers, nurses and ordinary citizens of Ghana over how they are using our money…remember the almighty incompetence, high interest rates and five years of dumsor.”
Razak Kojo Poku, a former General Secretary of the All Peoples Congress (APC), said the NDC was behind all the lies they told about Nana Addo.
He therefore appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo to forgive him.
