The Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS), Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has embarked on a familiarization visit to the National Sports College (NSP), Winneba.
Mr Asiamah, who led a delegation comprising, his deputy, Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, Dr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Technical Advisor on Sports at the Ministry, inspected the state of affairs of the training center.
The move was also to find possible ways to develop the infrastructure at the national center and make it use for sports development in the country.
In an interview Mr Asiamah noted that, government was committed to ensuring that, the center would properly position to serve the intended purpose.
“There are arrangements in place to find ways of developing this center to become a center of excellence for many sporting disciplines in personnel and infrastructural development.
“Aside the Public Private Partnership (PPA), government is also looking at the Build Operate Transfer (BOT), arrangement that will make sure the center is well positioned to provide the necessary services needed for Ghanaian sports men and women.”
According to Mr Asiamah, government is working on a legal framework to get the Sports College act passed, before the center could be called a Sports College, because a sports college should have a well-structured curriculum, lecture halls, quality teaching staff and accreditation, that are lacking for now.
Mr Asiamah assured authorities of the center, which has not seen any major maintenance since 2005 that “the center has the potential to become the first class sporting facility and a center of excellence in sports with the PPA and the BOT initiatives”.
