Monsignor Anthony Kornu, Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, has appealed to the Regional House of Chiefs to re- consider the suspension of Chiefs of Nkonya and Alavanyo from the House of Chiefs.
The chiefs were suspended in April this year for their failure to maintain peace in their respective traditional areas leading to loss of lives.
Addressing a forum in Ho to mark the International Day of Peace, Monsignor Kornu noted that though the conflict situation had dented the nobility of traditional authority in the Region, their extradition could worsen the state of affairs.
He said the conflict which had claimed over 80 lives since 1983, had re-surged in recent times after 17 years of relative calm and appealed to the Regional House of Chiefs to help maintain peace there.
The celebration was on the theme: Together for peace, respect, safety and dignity for all.
The forum in Ho had testimonies from victims of the violence.
Monsignor Kornu said victims were key stakeholders in the peace process and asked them to become active ambassadors of peace.
He noted that an "intervention fatigue had plagued the peace process" and called on all stakeholders particularly religious leaders and citizens both home and abroad to ensure peace prevailed.
Monsignor Kornu further appealed for a children's camp and a trauma healing process for victims, saying the violence was affecting the psychological make-up of the young ones and required attention.
