A former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John says it is too early for National Executive Aspirants of the party to start campaigning.

He says they should rather focus on helping to rebuild the party at the polling station levels rather than selling their intentions to contest for party positions to them.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning show, he explained that the party has processes and that he believes that aspirants should follow those processes as the party reorganizes and restructure the party.

Some names that have popped up to vie for various positions include the acting National Chairman of the party who is vying for the National Chairmanship of the party, Acting General Secretary and National Organizer of the party, John Boadu is also aspiring to cement his seat as General Secretary, Henry Nana Boakye Deputy National Coordinator of the National Service Secretariat also wants to lead the youth wing of the party, where as the National Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku also aspires to be the National Organizer of the party.

"The party has structures and processes which we follow after every election and I believe all aspirants should focus their energies in helping build the party at the polling station level for now.

"When I was General Secretary of the party this was what I was doing and I trust they doing same will help the growth of the party now that we are even in government," The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Forestry Commission said.

Asked whether he will stage a come for his position as General Secretary of the party, he said it was too early for him to declare his intentions.

As the party restructures and prepares for its national delegates conference, all constituency and polling station executives of the party across the country have been directed to update the register of members.

The decision to update the party's register is in pursuance to Article 3 I (1) of its constitution, which states, “There shall be kept at every polling station and in the office of the party in each constituency, an up-to-date register of members of the party in the constituency which shall be updated every six months and forwarded to the National Secretariat.”

This is to enable the party have a credible register for its general delegates elections to elect new officers.
