Early Detection Treatment Of Meningitis Underway

A Team of dedicated medical professionals have been set to educate residents in the Eastern Region on the early detection and treatment of meningitis in the Eastern Region.

The Eastern Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Daffour indicated that this move was necessitated with the spate of death caused by this viral infection so far.

Record has it that, there has been 87 reported cases of meningitis with 9 persons dying in the region .

This includes, the form two Koforidua Sec Tech Student who unfortunately died from the disease last Friday 8 December 2017, at the Koforidua Regional government hospital .

The Minister has revealed that, a dedicated medical team has been set up to educate residents in the region about the viral infection to prevent further fatalities .

He said ‘’ It has come from all over the region meningitis is a common reported disease in our various medical facilities, so we keep track with the medical professionals and we came up with the report ,so if they do not report to the health facilities early like what happened to the young boy that died because it is virus that kills very fast.’’

He explained that ‘’ so we use the intensive education method, where people exhibit symptoms that could be meningitis are brought to the hospital to be treated early.’’
