The Ghana Medical Association, GMA, is not happy with the ill-preparedness of the country for medical emergencies and epidemics.

The Association said the inadequate supply of personal protective equipment and other medical logistics needs to be improved to forestall any serious outbreak.

The Assistant General Secretary of the Association, Dr Titus Beyuo, said ongoing public education on the meningitis disease has been well organised.

However, he said the Ministry of Health should let the public know the level of preparedness in case of any epidemic and if there are enough vaccines.

Dr Beyuo said the GMA is convinced that the establishment of National Infectious Diseases Centres for the Northern and Southern Zones would serve as isolation centres for those diagnosed with infectious diseases.

He said the Centres can serve as training and research centres.

Dr Beyuo said due diligence must be done at all times before the President visit locations of suspected infections so as not to expose him to infections.
