Divine Whips Boye With 7 Votes - As NPP Elects Regional Executives

Divine Otoo Agorhum, a three-time parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party in the Sege constituency, at the weekend emerged winner of the contest for the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party.

Mr Agorhom won a total of 276 votes, defeating Alfred Boye, the acting Chairman, and Archibold Cobbina, the Regional Organiser, who had 269 and 65 votes respectively.

The race for Secretary was won by Nii Odarlai Parker, who had 299 votes, while Sabo Adam had 267 votes, with Solomon Asante securing a modest 42 votes.

The position of Regional Organizer was won by Prince Obeng, who defeated Tetteh Bossah, Ibrahim Tetteh Finifi and Francis Ebo Mensah.

The Women’s Organizer postion, which was also keenly contested, went to Grace Acheampong, who had 282 votes. She defeated Humu Billy Saeed, who had 188, with Vida Owusu picking 67, Roseline Danquah 41 and Naa Torshie Tortor, 32 votes.

The slot for Youth Organizer was won by Moses Abor with 309 votes. The other aspirants in the race, Kwesi Obeng-Ofosu, had 165 votes, Philip Doe, 109 votes; Kissi Yeboah Prince, 16 votes and Boamah Osei Gideon 6 votes.

Racheal Abena Tutu won the position of Treasurer with 218 votes, defeating Anyorko B. Amposem who had 116 votes, Mordecai Quarshie had 91, Safura Saeed 56, Hajia Moda Zinabu Issaka 23 and John Manu who had 3 votes.

The position for Nasara Cordinator was taken by Alhaji Kamil Hussain with 220 votes, followed by Tahiru Hashi, 135; Prince Aminu Saana, 132; Alhaji Adams Daud, 49; Abdul Aziz Yahaya, 21; Yussif Salisu, 19; Umar Sani, 18 and Hajj Ahmed Suraju 17.

Swearing the newly elected executives into office, Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organizer and National Executive Committee representative, called them to draw their contenders closer to ensure that their service to the party is stronger with expertise from those who lost.

From the Eastern region, the last minute withdrawal by some candidates increased the number of unopposed candidates to six. Only four of the ten available positions were therefore contested.

After a heated contest, Alhaji Umar Bodinga, the incumbent first vice chairman, retained his seat, polling 402 votes to beat his only contender, Oteng Adu Michael, who had 220 votes.

Fati Vondolie, acting Regional Women’s Organizer, polled 297 to beat her two contenders, Mercy Amo Darkoah and Josephine Sampson who polled 261 and 64 votes respectively.

For the second Vice Chairman position, current Regional Financial Secretary and former Member of Parliament for Lower West Akyem Constituency, James Appietu-Ankrah, who polled 140 votes, lost massively to Richard Twum Barimah, who polled 472 votes, with former Regional Organizer, Seth Otchere managing 10 votes. Hussein Mohammed Fadilu polled 242 votes to beat his four other contenders to become the party’s Regional Nasara Coordinator.

In the Ashanti region, apart from incumbents Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Samuel Payne, Regional Secretary who went unopposed, eight others went into a keenly contested election to claim their respective positions.

The regional 1st Vice Chairman position went to Mr Kwabena Senkyire, Ashanti Regional NADMO Director, who was once the 2nd Vice party chair for the region.

Acting Regional Youth Organizer, Nelson Owusu Ansah, who doubles as the Director of Ashanti regional National Youth Employment Agency claimed the Regional Youth Organiser slot.

Adom Appiah was honoured with the position of the deputy Regional Secretary after seeing off stiff competition from a youth activist, Moro Kabore.

Hajia Salow Zainab retained her position as the Regional Party Treasurer after another fierce competition from one Frank Acheampong.

A former Regional Secretary of the party, Sam Cudjoe, returned to the Regional Executive body as the 2nd Vice Chairman while Nana Ama Ampomah, the incumbent Women's Organiser, retained her seat in a close contest with Beatrice Owusu.

Salim Mansuru Bamba won the Regional Nasara Coordinator position, with Francis Adomako winning the position as the Regional Organiser, easing past Acting Organizer Agyenim Boateng Daniel.

In the Upper East region, Anthony Namooo was elected as the new Regional chairman, after beating the incumbent Murtala Mohammed with 124 votes while the incumbent had only 51 votes.

Moses Kwabena Atinga won the Vice Chairman position with 124 votes after beating Jonathan Jambeidu and Isaac Adawele Atasige.

Bugri Abubakar Ibrahim carried the second vice position with 132 whilst Regional organizer position went to Jerry Asamani.

The Regional secretary position was won by Cletus Innocent Ayabire who had 89 votes after beating five other contenders with the Regional Treasurer and Women’s organizer position going to Joseph Awinpanga Akanfaba and Ayamba Georgina respectively.

The Western Regional First Vice Chairman of the NPP, Francis Ndede Siah, was elected as the Chairman of the party, polling 233 votes to beat Ben Armah, who had 160 votes, with Frank Etti and Nana Owusu Ankomah polling 73 and 31 votes respectively.

The First Vice Chairman position went to Nana Kumi Ansah who polled 185 votes. James Obeng Jnr had 135 votes, Alberto Takyi had 88 votes, Mohammed Ben Ali also had 46 votes and Mr. Abdul Mumin Issah polled 42 votes.

Ishmael Evonla Whajah became the Second Vice Chairman, with 193 votes against the 115 votes won by Abena Kwallah. Samuel Otoo polled 64 votes, Kojo Boakye Yiadom 46, Gabriel Gyasi polled 42 and Charles Cobbinah had 39 votes.

The incumbent Secretary, Charles Bissue, was retained with 248 votes against his contenders, Okatekyie Amankwaa Afrifa and Emmanuel Acquaah.

The incumbent Assistant Secretary, Samuel Kofi Abuse, was also retained with 227 votes as against Samuel Adu Agyei who had 187 votes and Ken Wood also polled 84 votes.

The Organiser position was also retained by the incumbent, Abdul Ganiyu Mohammed, with 230 votes while Madam Golly Antwi Bosiako was also retained as the Women’s Organiser, with 335 votes.

The Youth Organiser position was won by Benedict Addaae, with 142 votes.

Al-Labib Shaman took the Nasara Coordinator position, polling 152 votes against Alhassan Abdul Raman who had 106 votes. Anna Akasi Hormah Miezah polled 214 votes to win the Treasurer position.

Fron the Volta region, the immediate past regional organizer, Makafui Kofi Woanyah, was elected the new chairman.

Joseph Homenya and Joseph Denteh were retained as Regional Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

A former director of elections for the NPP 2016 campaign, Emmanuel Korsi Bodja, received overwhelming endorsement for the Regional Organizer position; while Madam Afia Agyagbo secured the women Organizer position.
