Court Orders Opuni’s Bank Accounts Defrozen

The High Court 4 in Accra has ordered with immediate effect, the defreezing of two bank accounts of the former Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni.

The accounts, one at the Opeibea House branch of Stanchart Bank in Accra, and the second with Ecobank, were frozen by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) following investigations into Opuni’s administration at COCOBOD.

He is currently standing trial at the High Court for alleged malfeasance and willingly causing financial loss to the state.

Stephen Opuni’s motion on notice to discharge the freezing of the accounts was filed on April 13, 2018, which was not opposed to by lawyers for EOCO, and was granted by Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa.

The Accounts were frozen in February 2017.
