A 31-year-old Ghanaian woman living in Toronto, Canada has been shot to death at a funeral ceremony in her community close to the Replin Avenue, MyNewsGh.com can authoritatively report.

She was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Toronto trauma centre after the shooting a close family source revealed to MyNewsGh.com indicating that Janas Nyarko suffered life-threatening injuries due to the shooting.

The deceased Janas Nyarko was reportedly shot to death during a sporadic shooting at funeral rites of a Ghanaian lady who died in Ghana but was flown to Canada for the funeral service on Saturday, June 23, 2018.

“It would appear that this is a case of individuals coming from one neighbourhood in the city to another neighbourhood and shooting the first residents they see,” Detective Dave Dickinson of the Homicide Unit responded to a mail by MyNewsGh.com in response to enquiries about the incident.

The victim, Jenas Nyarko, it has been established parked car with three other people in the area of Replin Road and Old Meadow Lane at around 2 a.m. Sunday, when a silver SUV drove by and opened fire, police confirmed.

A Ghanaian resident in the area told this portal that majority of Ghanaians living in government subsidized houses in Toronto are prone to frequent attacks “because there are bad guys living in the area.”

Nyarko, who migrated to Canada from Ghana in 2001, lived in Toronto alone and worked at a shelter, Dickinson said. There is nothing that indicates that she or any of the other passengers in the car were targeted, he added.

Her death marks Toronto’s 47th homicide of the year and one of four in the GTA in under 24 hours.

Police have intensified a search for the killers of the Nyarko.
