Transforming Teacher Education And Learning Challenge Fund - End Of Project Learning Event Ends

The Transforming Teacher Education and Learning ( T- TEL ) Challenge Fund - End of Project Learning Event has ended at Koforidua in the Eastern region on the theme: Mobilizing local resources and partnerships to improve the professional preparation of pre- service teachers in Ghana's Colleges of Education.

The Offinso, Enchi, Ada and Mount Mary, Bimbilla, Wesley and Ada Colleges of Education (CoEs ) made presentations on the innovative projects they are implementing to improve the practical skills of their teacher trainees at the two- day program.

T-TEL is a four year (2015 to 2018) government of Ghana programme funded by UK Aid with an amount of 17 million Euros.

As part of the program the Challenge Fund was launched by T- TEL of which Ghc 2.5 million was disbursed to 31 CoEs to implement innovative practices in teaching, learning and management practices of the Colleges.

In his closing remarks, T- TEL Chief Technical Adviser Mr Akwasi Addae-Boahene said "as a result of the Challenge Fund the CoEs have brought about significant and positive changes in the lives of young people across the country by stimulating innovation in teacher development, tutor professional development, college management, gender inclusion and improved partnership".

Mr Addae-Boahene noted that the Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya ( NJA) College of Education in Wa has increased intake of Visually Impaired (VI) teacher trainees admitted to the college from 12 students in 2017 to 33 students in 2018 and has also refurbished a new learning center with five Perkins Braille machines and six desktop computers for the VIs among other achievements by the other CoEs.

Whilst commending the UK's Department for International Development for funding the projects, Mr Akwasi Addae-Boahene said" T- TEL will continue to assist the CoEs and public universities when the new bachelor of education curriculum by the CoEs commences in September 2018".

The Principal of Ada College of Education Mr Cephas Kwasi Bodakpui commended T-TEL for its support towards improvement of teaching and learning in the CoEs and appealed to government for an extension of the programme after 2018.

Nana Baffour Kusi Dapaah Nkwantakese-Benkumhene in Afigya Kwabre North who represented Nana Boakye Yam Ababio Nkwantakesehene, said the T-TEL programme has been of immense benefit to the district through the involvement of trainee teachers who help in data collection especially on the population of communities to help in planning.

Madam Ayishatu Ibrahim the President of the Ghana Blind Union and Deputy Upper West regional Director of Education appealed to T- TEL to help Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya ( NJA ) College of Education to purchase an embosser (a machine that functions like a photocopier) .
