Close All 'Unlicensed' Foreign Retail Shops - GUTA Charges Members

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has asked its members across the regions to close all foreign shops who do not have the required permit to operate businesses in the country.

According to them, they are distracting the activities and businesses of local business men in the country.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of GUTA, Mr. David Kojo Amoateng charged all its regional Chairmen to move to foreign shops inspect license of foreign traders and close all shops which do not have the required licenses to do business in the country.

These foreign businesses have over stayed their presence in this country and they are causing disaffection amongst traders.

Our leaders have also compromised themselves and that they cannot address our challenges with these foreign traders so we will embark on citizen’s arrest and ensure that things are done in the right order.

GUTA is protesting the influx of foreigners in retail trade. They are demanding action against foreigners involved in retail trade.

The action which began, Tuesday left several shoppers in Kumasi and Accra frustrated, as they were turned away from some markets.

The traders are also protesting what they describe as the worsening economic situation in the country.
