The National Lottery Authority’s (NLA) CEO Kofi Osei-Ameyaw and his Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) counterpart Capt. Ben Edward Duah (rtd) have held a joint meeting on a final road map towards the official launch and operations of the VAG Lotto expected to kick start later this month.
VAG, NLA has been engaged in a long drawn conflict over jurisdictional authority of the former’s lotto management.
Most of the illegal lotto operators and agents operate with licenses provided under Act 844 which empowered the Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) to engage in raffles or Lottery proceeds from which are to be used in catering for the welfare of their members.
Refreshingly an agreement between the NLA and VAG has ended the conflict the former taking over the regulation of the veterans’ lottery.
Under the new deal between the two organizations the VAG would receive an initial payment of GH₵ 120, 000 from NLA and an additional payment of GH₵ 100, 000 as part of NLA’s Corporate Social Responsibility to the veterans.
A monthly cash payment of GH₵ 120, 000 for the upkeep of veterans is part of the package.
The Executive Secretary of VAG, Capt. Ben Edward Dua (Retired) praised the NLA board for the decisions taken.
The new arrangement would bring to an end the operations and activities of illegal lotto operators, agents and writers.
