Traders at Kantamanto within the central business district (CBD) of Accra have welcomed calls by the Majority caucus in Parliament for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to relieve Ken Ofori-Atta of his duty as Minister of Finance.
They have described the move as lucid and a step in the right direction to help fix the ailing economy.
The Majority Members of Parliament (MPs) earlier on Tuesday, October 25 issued a unanimous notice to President Akufo-Addo to sack Mr Ofori-Atta.
The MPs, numbering about 80, want the president to sack not only Ken Ofori-Atta but also Charles Adu Boahen, who is a Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, because they have failed.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, October 25, MP for Asante Akyem North Andy Appiah-Kubi said they have been compelled to come public on their demands because several appeals to the Presidency through the leadership have failed.
He insisted vehemently that should the president fail to heed their call, they will not participate in any business of government by or for the president.
The Chairman of the Used Clothes Dealers Association, Micheal Oppong, reacting to this in an interview with Onua FM, indicated that the call by the Majority Caucus is welcoming yet long overdue.
He underscored that the Finance Minister should have been rejected or fired a long time due to his abysmal performance.
“I strongly support the call by the Majority to sack Ken Ofori-Atta because he has collapsed the economy, rendering the business community to suffer.
“A bale of used clothes sold at GH¢1000 is now selling at GH¢4000, which is making it difficult for our members to sustain their capital; so I think Ken should go and allow a better person to take over,” he reiterated.
He appealed to President Akufo-Addo to heed to the call and sack the Finance Minister to help restore hope in the government.
Some members of the Association who spoke with the news team equally expressed joy over the call and prayed that President Akufo-Addo would heed to it and change the finance ministers.
They are positive that there are equally better people in the NPP to replace Mr Ofori-Atta.

Hahahaaaa, the one in charge says he alone is always right, the 30 million Ghanaians are always wrong. So traders, Mr In charge says you got it wrong. So ask him whether you were also wrong when you voted overwhelmingly for him to be president in 2016 from where he got the mandate to appoint the finance minister. What these so called politicians fail to realize is that if qualification to be president, Vice President, minister,MMDCE, CEO , MP were by examinations, none, i repeat, none of them will be sitting where they are today. They should know some of their classmates are still around. The fact that you were not always first in class should tell you those who used to beat you in class were more intelligent than you that's why they used to beat you in exams. So when you are speaking watch your words, your classmates are listening and laughing. Even Messi, Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Sallah, Harry kane, Son hueng min, halland with all their goal scoring skills are sometimes substituted not because of injury much much less someone who didn't read economics but finds himself as a finance minister because his uncle says be, and he is. But the interesting thing is that the one in charge will be saying, these traders paaaa, what do you know about economics to be supporting the call for me to sack my beloved son. Even God ask Moses to reject his son when he was questioning his father about the safety of the boat God ordered him to construct. These are all lessons for leaders to learn from but if you are to fail your ears and eyes will remain closed even though you are not deaf or blind. This is exactly what Is happening.
