Mr Samuel Victor Meisu, Amenfi West District Chief Executive on Saturday called on rural banks to collaborate with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to create employment for the youth.

He made the call during the sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of works on a GH¢1.3 million multi-purpose banking hall and offices of theAsankrangwa branch of the Amenfiman Rural Bank Limited.

Mr Meisu said the assemblies could collaborate with rural banks in many areas to create jobs for the youth.

He commended the Amenfiman Rural Bank for initiating the project and urged the financial entity to consider undertaking projects in the non-banking sector to create jobs.

Mr Meisu advised the staff of the bank to exhibit honesty, transparency and accountability in their work in order to attract more customers.

Dr Toni Aubynn, Chairman of the Amenfiman Rural Bank, who cut the sod for the commencement of the project appealed to the government to allow strong rural banks with high profitability to handle the District Assemblies Common Fund in areas that do not have commercial banks.

Dr Aubynn who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines said the bank intends to construct an agency at Kumasi to reduce the risk of armed robbery on its customers.

He said some of the bank's customers have been made poor through armed robbery and the bank wants to bring banking to their doorsteps.

The bank made an after tax profit of more than GH¢ 2 million in 2012 and has assets of about GH¢40 million and deposits of about GH¢39 million.

Dr Aubynn said the multi-purpose banking hall and offices would be completed by December, which comprise two -storey building with 30 offices and stores.
