ECOBANK Ghana has donated GH52,000 to the University of Ghana Alumni Association in support of three ongoing projects.

The donation was made at the annual fundraising ball of the association held in Accra at the weekend. The Faculty of Arts project is one of the three projects currently being jointly undertaken by the association and the university.

The other projects are the construction of a mothers wing at the Legon Hospital to cater for mothers whose children are on admission at the hospital and the construction of an eye clinic to serve the Legon community.

The Chairman of the University of Ghana Alumni Association, Paa Kwesi Yankey, praised Ecobank for the donation, and encouraged other corporate organisations to emulate the act.

The difference between a good university and great one is the loyal support of its alumni and friends. Ecobank Ghanas generous gift will significantly contribute towards funding the construction of a mothers wing at the Legon hospital to accommodate those whose children are on admission, as well as the provition of a much needed incinerator at the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research, he stated.

He added that We greatly appreciate the continued financial and moral support of Ecobank and all our other corporate partners. Their investments in various projects will greatly help Legon to attain its goal of achieving world class recognition.

Paa Kwesi Yankey also congratulated the university administration and the student body on the successful launch of a readers series in December last year the single largest publications of any African university. That, the alumni chairman said, had catapulted the university to greater heights.

The guest of honour, President John Dramani Mahama, who is an alumnus of the university, assured the association of sourcing funds for the projects.

The University of Ghana has contributed considerably to the success of many of its alumni and it is only fitting that these distinguished graduates endeavour to give something back to their alma mater, the President said.
