How would you feel to tell a friend for a friend to tell another friend or a family member about a bank and be rewarded with cash for spreading the word? – Yes that is possible with Ghana’s leading banking institution, Societe General.

The banking giant has taken an innovative step ahead of its competitors by launching a promotion aimed at rewarding its loyal customers.

Dubbed the Spread the Word promotion – it is the first of its kind in the country, according to the Managing Director of the bank.

The promotion is to reward customers of the bank ones they convince a friend or family members to open a current account with the bank – Interestingly, the referred [new] customers are also rewarded when they also open account and become customers.

Speaking at the brief ceremony at the bank’s headquarters in Accra, Mr. Gilbert Hie - Managing Director of the bank explained the reason behind the newly launched promotion – “the bank wants to keep the spirit of rewarding our customers”.

His deputy, Mr. Francois Marchal further noted how the promotion strategically fits into the bank’s plans – “Spread the Word is exactly in line with the bank’s initiative to be the lead innovator on the market when it comes to truly giving customers best products and services”

Mr. Marchal also stated that the strategy of the bank – “revolves around maintaining our customers and attracting more by making sure we offer the highest quality of service, great, effective and innovative products and excellent customer care that keeps us ahead of the competition but more importantly makes the customer feel confident and satisfied”

The juicy promotion was motivated by the positive feedback received from customers on the products and services being offered by the bank.

The Head of Segment and product Development for Societe General, Mr. Fred Addy also explained the promotion process – “existing customers [referrers] had to simply spread the word about the satisfaction of the bank by encouraging colleagues, friends and loved ones to open a current account with an initial deposit of GH50.00 and received their salary through the account”.

“At this stage, the referrer receives his/her reward immediately. A cool GH25.00 which is credited in to his account. The newly customer will also receive a gift to celebrate his arrival into the SG Ghana family,” he added.

He was emphatic that both the new customer and the referrer will earn 50 point when the referred customer receives three [3] consecutive salaries on the new account – thus, during the second stage of the promotion.

Mr. Addy further explained the final stage of the promotion – when the referred person applies for a loan of GH5,000 and above, and has the loan approved, the referred person then earns 50 point and the referrer earns 100 points – “both the referred and referrer gets great rewards”.

He stated that, no restriction as to the number of people to refer and explained that the points accumulated will be converted to cash to be redeemed at the end of the promotion period which is the 31st of December 2015.

However, the Head of Retail Banking, Mr. Kwaku Tweneboah-Koduah tells how customers could participate in the promo nationwide.

He stressed on the fact that the bank’s retails unit is keenly focused on making its customers happy on a daily basis and that this promotion was to run in all 40 branches of the bank across the country.
