Some workers in the Accra Metropolis are angry with the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) for not receiving their three months salary arrears under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) in December.

Ghana News Agency investigations at some banks in Accra on Friday revealed that some workers had not received their salaries with the arrears.

Some workers who had queued to collect their salaries were disappointed because some of the banks had not credited their accounts.

Mr Benjamin Larbi, a staff of Ghana Judicial Service who has an account with the High Street Branch of Ghana Commercial Bank was disappointed when he checked through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to collect his salary and realised that the three months salary arrears had not been credited.

He said I am shocked that salaries have not been paid as at Friday, the last working day for Christmas. How do I fend for myself and family.

"The statement from CAGD that salaries for December has been paid together with three months SSSS arrears to all banks has now turned to be a different story," Mr Larbi added.

At the Makola Branch of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Mr Abdul-Rahman Fatawu, a staff of Ghana Audit Service at the AMA Head Office complained to the GNA that he had not received his salary with the stipulated arrears.

"I receive my salary through the Nungua Branch of ADB, but checks at the branch and others indicated that salaries have not been paid," he said.

The situation was the same at the High Street branches of Standard Chartered Bank (Ghana) Limited and Barclays Bank (Ghana) Limited all in Accra, as salaried workers returned home with their cheques because their account had not been credited, but no satisfactory reasons were given.

Bank officials refused to talk to the GNA on the delays, as none of them was prepared to comment on the issue.

Investigations at CAGD revealed that the Department was working towards the release of funds to all banks to pay the December salaries together with the arrears.
