The Producer Price Committee has reviewed upwards the producer price of cocoa from three 3,280 cedis per tonne to 3,392 cedis per tonne for the 2012-2013 cocoa season which opens today.
This amount translate to 212 cedis per bag of sixty-four kilogramme and represent 78.42 percent of the FOB price.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, said despite the declining world cocoa prices, government is committed to ensuring that the welfare of cocoa farmers is continuously enhanced.
He added that government has decided to reduce its share of the 2012-2013 cocoa export duty in other to raise the producer price paid to the hard working cocoa farmers.
