A $10,000 insurance policy package to insure farm birds against Newcastle disease and other harmful disease is in the offing for poultry farmers in Dormaa Ahenkro.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the government of Ghana, financial institutions and poultry farmers with funding provided by Sweden, Germany and the World Bank.
Speaking in an interview with the GNA at a meeting organized by the Poultry Farmers Association in Dormaa Ahenkro, Mr. Johnson Osei, Dormaa Municipal Coordinator, Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool, said the insurance policy was to protect poultry farmers against occupational hazards and risk factors like farm diseases.
Mr. Osei said the policy was necessary as a result of the failure of the traditional banks to meet the expectations and strategic needs of poultry farmers and farmers in general.
