A South Africa based company called Wonderworld has introduced an innovative method of cooking through the use of the Wonderbag onto the Ghanaian market.

The Wonderbag, which is made of fabric and light foam (one used in the making of leather chairs), could cook food just like charcoal, gas or electric cookers.

Speaking during the launch of the Wonderbag in Accra on Thursday, Gareth Vilijoen, Project Manager, Wonderworld South Africa, said the usage of Wonderbag could reduce the use of charcoal, electricity or gas by over 60 percent.
“All that one needs to do is to put the food you want to cook on either your gas, coal pot or electric stove to boil for about five minutes and afterwards put in the Wanderbag,” he said.
He said the heat retention ability of the Wonderbag would fully cook the food without the further use of charcoal, gas or electricity.

He said the Wonderbag had been well accepted in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, as Wonderworld had distributed about 5,000 Wonderbags to people there free of charge.
Mr Vilijoen said users of Wonderbags do not get eye problems as the bags do not use flames, but only heat retained from the cooking of food on fire to the boiling point for about five minutes.

He said Wonderbag was invented in 2007 during South Africa’s energy crisis in 2007 by Sarah Collins, who has been travelling all over the world to promote it.

He said the product could now be purchased on the Jumia online trading platform for GH¢120.00.

“After the Christmas holidays, the price will go up to GH¢150.00 and could be purchased from our sales representatives,” he added.
