Cooking tomatoes has recorded the highest surge for May 2020, according to a market survey of some selected commodities conducted by Esoko.
Per the survey, the average price of a 72-kilogram crate of the tomatoes rose by almost 13% to record GH¢933; from a previous selling price of GH¢826 recorded in April.
The market research firm Esoko also cited the price of millet had recorded a dip for the period on the commodity market.
For May 2020, Esoko indicated 72-kilograms of tomatoes was sold at the highest for GH¢1600 at Dambai in the Northern Region, while the least price of the commodity was sold at GH¢420 in Tamale also in the north.
Followed by cassava which recorded an average market price of GH¢139.83; from a previous GH¢124.33. The percentage increase for cassava rose by 12.47% while Accra recorded the uppermost price of GH¢160 and Kumasi recorded the lowest price of GH¢90 for cassava.
Additionally, groundnut, gari and the ‘pona’ variety of yam recorded price increases ranging between 2.91 and 2.74%.
Meanwhile, the price of the 50-kilogram bag of imported rice also recorded an upsurge of 0.44 percent, while the 100-kilogram bag of local white rice recorded a drop in price.
Also, three food items namely millet, cowpea and local rice recorded a drop in prices between April and May 2020.
The Esoko survey conducted observed 12 food items including grains, vegetables and tubers across seven markets in the country.
