Earlier this month, I launched a scathing criticism on Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP, accusing him of not doing enough to aid his colleague regional executives and persons in the region to 'catch' the eye of the President with regards to the appointments of persons into government as other regional chairmen were seen or believed to be doing devoid of mischief.
That article went viral on social media platforms and I understand it became a news item on almost all radio stations in Kumasi and its environs. Why? Because the person being criticized is Chairman Wontumi (the Governor of Ashanti) and undoubtedly, the most popular politician in Ghana right now aside His Excellency, the President, and his Veep.
Today, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is paying an unprecedented attention to the Ashanti Region and appointments are suddenly, without any 'warning' bursting in like Hurricane Katrina.
Lawyer Kodua Frimpong, the Ashanti regional youth organizer, has been appointed the CEO of the National Youth Employment Agency; Nana Boakye aka Nana B has been appointed the Deputy Director of National Service Scheme, Mr. Stephen Amoah, the regional organizer has also been appointed the CEO of MASLOC, Lawyer John Kumah is also going to head the Youth Enterprise Support, Dr Nsiah Asare for D-G Ghana Health Service, Hon. Kokofu now heads the Forestry Commission etc and I understand more appointments are in the offing. Say Amen to it!
Our Chairman may or may not have had a direct hand in these appointments likewise our agitation may or may not have influenced these appointments but it will be unethical and unfair on my part, if I fail to praise the man who took a lot of bashing from colleagues communicators and I when appointments were scarce for the region like urine is to the fowl.
Indeed these appointments have justified why "THE GOVERNOR" has been added to his name and why he would continue to be among the most popular politicians ever to grace the Ashanti region.
I want to believe Chairman Wontumi took my rather harsh criticism in good faith and worked towards it; the mark of any good leader who has his people at heart.
This is a man who never personalized my criticism of his perceived inaction in terms of appointments but rather worked to overcome what may have been a legitimate oversight.
To the media men who gave prominence to my earlier criticism, please do same with this one too.
To our President, the Ashanti Region is grateful to you for honouring the region with appointments but like Oliver Twist, we will continue to ask for more.
Please, pass this to Chairman Wontumi.
The voice of a near satisfied footsoldier.
