Owere Mines Company Limited, a gold mining company operating in the Asante-Akim North Municipality, has donated GH˘10,000 towards the construction of a new police station at Odumase near Konongo.
The community is undertaking the project through self-help to provide permanent office and residential accommodation for the police.
Mr Roger Banister, Project Manager of the Mines presenting a cheque for the amount at a ceremony on Thursday, said this was part of their social responsibility to the people.
He spoke of the company's determination to become a reliable development partner of the municipality and said the donation was only the beginning of the "good things to come" to raise the living conditions of the people.
Mr Thomas Osei-Bonsu, the Municipal Chief Executive, said the donation would improve the security situation of the municipality.
He appealed to the company o ensure that its operations conformed to environmental standards.
Mr Osei-Bonsu suggested to the mines to give out part of its concession to the about 2,000 small-scale miners operating illegally in the municipality to help rein in their activities.
Nana Offe Brobbey, Kyidomhene of Odumase, said they were grateful to the company for the support.
