A 20-year-old farmer, Frederick Acquah has been remanded in Police custody by the Half Assini District Magistrate Court for assaulting Mr Paul Addison, Jomoro District Commissioner of Human Rights and Administrative Justice.
Acquah, who pleaded not guilty for assaulting, has been ordered by the court to reappear on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
Narrating the incident to the court, presided over by Mr Hanz Kofi Kpogo, Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Anaman said at about 2300 hours on Thursday, August 23, the accused and other accomplices at large spotted Mr Addison in a Fante fishing community and suspected him of being a thief.
Inspector Anaman said the accused and the friends pounced on the victim, tied him up and assaulted him severely, which resulted in the victim sustaining swollen face and eyes and later dragged him to the Half Assini Police Station to lodge a complaint against him (victim).
The Inspector stated that the Police upon realising the seriousness of the condition of the victim asked the accused and his colleagues to send Mr Addison to hospital for treatment but they disappeared from the Police Station.
A Police Medical Form was issued out to the victim to attend the Half Assini Government Hospital and was admitted.
The Police mounted a search for the accused and was later arrested and after thorough investigations charged with the offence and arraigned before the court.
However the Police had intensified efforts to get those at large arrested.
