A THIRTY –FIVE-year-old cocoa farmer, Samuel Kwabena Akorli, is being hunted by the police and the people of Akyem Gyamase in the Atiwa district of the Eastern region for allegedly shooting his wife, Rebecca Yaago, also 35, to death over ten Ghana cedis.
Sources at Gyamase told the DAILY HERITAGE that the couple who is blessed with seven children had a misunderstanding over the money when Akorli sold his dried cocoa beans to a cocoa purchasing clerk.
The deceased, was said to have taken GHc 20.00 out of the total sales to purchase school items for the children since, according to her, the husband had refused to assist in the children’s upkeep.
The action of Yaago however did not go down well with Akorli who demanded the Ghc 20.00. This resulted in a hot argument between the couple, but, they were calmed down by the co-tenants of the house.
However, after series of pleading by the co-tenants of the house who saw the anger of Akorli, Yaago returned Ghc10.00 to the husband and kept the remaining Ghc10.00 to purchase the school items for the children
The next morning, Akorli who was still angry with the wife, decided to go to the farm and as had been the practice, the wife accompanied him, but the husband warned her not to follow him, a warning she ignored.
On reaching the farm, Akorli, who was holding a gun allegedly shot the wife at close range killing her instantly.
Akorli’s father, Opanin Kwame Akorli, who had also gone to farm at the same area rushed to the scene after the shot only to see his gun with the wife in a pool of blood.
According to the 95-year-old father, his son ordered him to sit beside his in-law’s remains else he (suspect) would kill him as he had done to the wife.
After the orders, Akorli fled into the bush and has still not been seen. At the moment, residents of Akyem Gyamase are afraid to go to their farms for fear of meeting the fugitive Akorli in the bush.
Meanwhile, the Akyem Akropong Police have deposited the remains of Yaago at the hospital for autopsy.
