A Japanese company, African Trust Tokyo, has constructed a 60,000 US-dollar children library in honour of President John Evans Atta Mills and his family at Ekumfi-Nanabin in the Central Region. Speaking at the inauguration of the library on Friday, Reverend Eldad .N. Bonney, the company's representative in Ghana said the location of the facility was strategically chosen to attract and encourage children's interest in reading and learning.

He said it was also to honour President Mills for his patience and forbearance as a leader and even before ascending to the seat of government. Rev. Bonney promised to ensure that the library was stocked with reliable and modern reading and learning materials. "We believed that parents and the community as a whole would ensure that their children make the maximum use of this facility, especially in the evening," he said.

Rev. Bonney urged the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly education office to assist the community to engage the services of a full time librarian(s) to man the place. He said the community's ability to maintain it would spur African Trust to give more assistance. Dr Don Arthur, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist, who represented President John Evans Atta Mills, said with the right education to children they would contribute effectively to national development.

He urged parents to give children enough time to patronize the facility instead of sending them to farms always. Speaking also at the function, Mr Mike Hammah, the Minister for Transport urged parents not to relent their efforts to invest in their children education because the rewards far outweigh the cost.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Mfantsiman, Mr Kweku Affron commended the Trust for the assistance and assured them that the assembly would stock it and ensure constant maintenance. Nana Okofo Gyasi IV, chief of Ekumfi-Nanabin on behalf of his people thanked all who helped to build the library. Later the president of the Trust, Mr Masaru Toyofuku and Dr Don Arthur jointly cut the tap to inaugurate the facility.
