Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza South District Director of Education, has urged members of Nkoranza Students Union to encourage parents to support the girl-child education to the tertiary level in the area.

She said when women were well educated they contributed meaningfully to promote the development of the district.

Madam Banson was addressing the members at the union’s annual handing-over and dinner ceremony at Nkoranza on Friday.

She expressed concern about the reluctance of some parents to support their female children to the Senior High School level and beyond and advised the parents to discard such attitude.

Nana Akua Amoa II, headmistress of Nkoranza SHS, called on female students in the union to help educate the female youth in the communities on the importance of education.

The headmistress, who is queen-mother of Tuobodom in Techiman Municipality, urged the female students to learn hard in order to get employment in various sectors of the economy including the security services.

Mr. Augustine Kyeremeh, out-going president of the union, thanked members for their support and encouragement and urged them to extend same to the in-coming executives.

Mr. Paul Appiah Clinston, newly-elected president, on behalf of colleagues promised to maintain the cordial relations between the executives and the members, saying “we will not relent in efforts at moving the union forward”.

Venerable Peter Kwadwo Sakyi of the Anglican Church in Nkoranza, who presided, commended parents who supported their children’s education to the tertiary level.

Other members of the new executives were Mr. Bernard Opoku Donyina, vice-president, Mr. Patrick Adu, secretary, Mr. Sarfo Kyeremeh, financial secretary and Mr. Peter Addo, organiser.
