The University for Professional Studies (UPS) is to confer its first ever hononary doctorate degree on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion of education in the country.

In addition, it has invited him to Chair its Centre for Traditional Leadership, established through the sponsorship of the European Union and the Association of African Universities.

Professor Joshua Alabi, the Vice Chancellor, announced this when he led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene at his Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.

He gave high marks to Otumfuo Osei Tutu, an alumnus of the University, for the tremendous efforts he is making towards the development of education.

His unique achievements as a traditional leader is recognized the world over and that his installation as the Chair of the Centre would go a long way to promote research in traditional leadership management - the core activity of the Centre, he added.

Professor Alabi informed the Asantehene that the UPS had seen massive improvement in terms of infrastructure and human resource development as well as student enrollment in the last couple of years.
It stands out as the only higher institution of learning offering Masters Degree programmes in auditing, petroleum accounting and finance.

He noted that the Asantehene could play an important role in its development and growth.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the management and staff for the good job they are doing, adding that, as an alumnus, he felt proud to be offered the opportunity to serve as the first Chair of the Centre and pledged his support to the development of the UPS.
