The President of the Ghana Technology University College (formerly Telecom University), Dr. Osei K. Darkwa has advised the youth to take advantage of various courses and programmes at the University to acquire employable skills that would enable them to establish their own businesses, rather than looking forward to non existing white colour jobs.

Dr. Darkwa stressed that the future of Ghana and the world largely depended on technology as well as the ability of the universities to offer programmes that would not produce large numbers of unemployed graduates, but the type of education that would rather create jobs for the youth.

Speaking at a ceremony in Ho to introduce the various courses at the Ghana Technology University College, the President of the University pointed out that his institution is a perfect one that offers opportunities to the youth to acquire the needed knowledge and skills that would enable them compete favourably in the competitive world of work.

The President of the Ghana Technology University College explained that the institution was a unique educational institution with different kinds of programmes to meet the needs of the youth who had completed either Junior High School (JHS) or Senior High School (SHS) and who for some reason were not able to further their education, as well as those who qualified to further their education.

Dr. Darkwa disclosed that the University offers undergraduate and graduate programmes, noting that the institute did not just offer university programmes in modern technology and related areas, but ensured that those courses were relevant and on high demand in addressing the employment needs of society.

He announced that the University even admits JHS and SHS graduates who could not further their education where they would be taken through practical technical programmes to acquire skills in repair and assembling of computer, television, mobile phones and other machines to enable them establish their own businesses upon completion of the programme.

The President of the University pointed out that the well designed programmes to train the JHS and SHS students was dubbed -“technology camp”- aimed at helping them to become self-employed, as well as be in position to train and employ others, stressing that the objective of the University was to open its branch in Ho, in the Volta region, to enable the youth to acquire the needed knowledge and skills.

He continued that the University is affiliated with other universities such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Aalborg University and other universities abroad to help provide the best education to meet the development needs of the times.

Dr. Darkwa mentioned Telecom Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering and management accounting as some of the courses being offered at the University emphasizing that credit in English, Mathematics and Science were required to enable a candidate to get admission into the University.
