The Minister of Education Professor, Jane Nana Opoku Agyeman, has proposed the banning of protocol admissions into, educational institutions to ensure quality capacity development in our higher institutions of hearing.
The advocacy has been hailed by some technocrats in the Ghana Education Service.
But politicians and scholars say the protocol quota has existed for long and benefited the vulnerable and the poor in society.
Radio Ghana's finds out from some of sections of society what they think about the Minister's position.
First is the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Stephen Adu. He supports the call and says Ghanaians must decide the way forward.
The Registrar at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Parry Fosu, supports the Minister's advocacy that the protocol system is affecting quality education.
A politician and former MP for Essikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, P.C. Appiah Ofori, said protocol quota has been implemented in the country for a long time, and maintained that it has benefited the poor in society.
