The Dormaa Education Endowment Fund (DORMEEF) on Monday awarded scholarships worth GH¢30,000.00 to 70 students from Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region to further their education.

The beneficiaries are made up of 37 females and 33 males in senior high schools, universities, polytechnics, nurses and teacher training colleges.

So far, 1,360 students comprising 869 males and 491 females in the Dormaa Central Municipality had benefited from the scholarship amounting to GH¢185,074.84, since the establishment of DORMEEF in 2000 by Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu II, Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Area.

Barima Oppong Kyeremeh Sikafour II, Akwamuhene of Dormaa and DORMEEF Chairman disclosed this during a get-together of the chiefs and people of Dormaa-Ahenkro at the Abrankese Palace at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

He noted that with the establishment of DORMEEF, many of the youth in the area had chalked high academic laurels and entreated Dormaa-Ahenkro citizens, especially those residents abroad to contribute to the fund.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu II expressed appreciation to all and sundry who in diverse ways had contributed to the fund.

He said the traditional council would continue to give priority to education as without quality education, it would be impossible for people to better their lots and enhance their standards of living as well.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu entreated beneficiaries of the fund to learn hard to justify the colossal amount being spent on them and avoid unhealthy lifestyles.

He advised the youth in the area who in one way or the other were out-of- school to enter into skills training to enable them acquire employable skills for a better future.

The Omanhene reminded parents that education was the best legacy they could bequeath their children and advised them to ensure that all their school-going age children were not only enrolled but retained in schools.
