Jackson College of Education (JEC), a private teacher training institution accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB), has admonished student athletes not to pursue their sporting career at the expense of their studies.

They have been asked to combine both academic and sports to prepare them for a brighter future in the face of an increasing global competition.

Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, Principal of the College who made the call, implored such students to pay attention to their studies to ensure their holistic development.

She was speaking during awards presentation at this year's edition of Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools and Colleges Sports Festival in Kumasi.

As one of the sponsors of the event, JEC presented over 500 exercise books to winners in various disciplines aside its financial support to the annual event.

Mrs. Jackson said, JEC’s decision to be part of the event, was inspired by the number of talents that had been unearthed over the years during the competition, adding that her outfit was committed to comprehensive development of the youth. She urged the participants to be disciplined as sports men and women in order to harness their potentials, stressing the need for them to shun all social vices that could ruin their ambitions.

She called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to help provide the needed sports infrastructure in order not to render the annual event a futile exercise.

The Principal disclosed that JEC was prepared to offer free career and moral counseling to students and urged interested heads of second cycle institutions to take advantage of it when the opportunity does presents itself.
