Students of Mawuli School in Ho have been asked not to bring trunks to school from next term.

The directive is to help create space in the dormitories and avoid the spread of communicable diseases among the boarders.

The students normally keep their books, school uniforms, church clothes and cosmetics in the trunks.

Mr Kwame Tawiah Aggor, Headmaster of the School gave the directive at this year’s Annual General Meeting of the School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

The School has student population of 3,167 out of which 2,800 are boarders.

Checks by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) show that about 50 students stay in a dormitory with a few of them sleeping on the corridors.

Mr Aggor said the situation was too bad that all facilities were overstretched.

A teacher at the School told the GNA that the students eat in batches and use other facilities like computer and science laboratories in turns due to the larger numbers.

Mr Gameli Ahorlu, PTA Chairman of the School said it was unfortunate that more students were posted to the academic entity thereby over stretching the available resources.

He called for immediate attention in order not to compromise quality teaching and learning.

He said the PTA is levying parents so that it could renovate some old blocks-Jubilee and Glalah, to decongest the boys’ dormitory.

Mr Ahorlu said the PTA is also almost through with the construction of an incinerator at the girls’ dormitory for the burning of sanitary pads to forestall the frequent choking of their water closets.

He appealed to government to desist from interfering in PTA issues, so that the Association could do its best through levying members to provide quality education to their children.
