President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat to issue a full scholarship to one Abednego Sackey after some persons at the presidency drew the President’s attention to the plight of the SHS graduate on social media.
Abednego Sackey, a native of Subriso, in the Eastern region, who completed the Kade Senior Secondary and Technical School with seven A1s and B2, on September 28, posted his plight on Facebook asking benevolent individuals to come to his aid in order to further his education after losing the mum.

He wrote, “My name is Sackey Abednego. I completed School at Subriso L/A JHS and Kade SHS in the Kwaebibirem Municipal Ass. I offered science and had the result here but unfortunately for me, my single mum who provides for me passed out before my final exams.”
He continued, “I’m therefore pleading with the stakeholders and the good people of Ghana to help me financially to further my education at the tertiary level. My contact is 0245251449. God bless the helping hand. Amen.”
President intervenes
Having caught the attention of some persons at the presidency, the President was duly informed after which he subsequently directed the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat, Mr Kingsley Agyemang, to invite Abednego Sackey and award him a full scholarship.
The Registrar after receiving Master Abednego and his auntie at his office yesterday, said the Secretariat was glad to have come to his aid.
“His dream is to study medicine and we as a government agency will make sure that he gains admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a full scholarship in addition to stipends throughout his period of learning,” he said.
He also charged Abednego Sackey to make the President and the country as a whole proud by taking his studies seriously.
In addition, the Registrar made a personal donation of GHC1000.00 to the family of Abednego Sackey.
Janet Sackey, Auntie of Master Abednego, could not hide her joy and praised the President for coming to their aid.
“I am even short of words. We thought all was lost. I want to say a big thank you to President Akufo-Addo and everyone who has helped my child to pursue his dreams. And to Mr Agyemang and the Scholarship Secretariat, I will want to say a big thank you,” she said.

Why should he get seven A1s and B2 which is a total of aggregate 09, to do medicine, whereas the university is saying or said the cut off to do medicine is aggregate 06? Where are we going in this Ghana?
People like you are the ones making politician feel once they construct a road, build hospitals, etc, citizens must bow before them. By the time you will have wisdom to understand this, the likes of you will be chased out of this country together with your politician parents, uncles, etc.
God bless the President.James can go to hell.Inhumane person
We have a very big problem in this country. Recently it has been announced that the president gave some 30,000 tertiary students scholarship. The question is what criteria was used to award those scholarships? Is it for needy but brilliant students or what? Why was this gentleman not identified as a potential recipient of that scholarship? Is this scholarship coming from the president personally or from the scholarship secretariat? Is the president in charge of determining who receive any of these scholarships? Let's be careful the way we politicize everything in this country. If the president is not personally responsible for footing the bill of this young man, then why should he be the one identified as the giver of this scholarship whiles it's the taxpayers money. Politics will destroy this country if we are not careful.
Well done to Mr President the whole world how Generous humility you are, Mr Agyemang I personally know how Brilliant n resilient you are, đđ.
Well done Mr President and God bless you...a lot of such under-privileged students and graduates are in the country please keep helping them and they will surely make you proud. Once again God bless you and Mr Agyeman.
