Education Minister, Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has disclosed that President Nana Akufo-Addo, in the next four years of his government, will see to the needs of special schools in the country.
Speaking in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Matthew Opoku-Prempeh stated that special needs schools have been neglected for years.
To him, President Akufo-Addo is committed to salvage the situation.
He revealed that a World Bank Fund is to be secured to ensure improvement in the sector.
"So, cabinet has agreed that the next World Bank funding . . . we should be dedicated to special school and inclusive education, technical and vocational. There are 28 basic schools called designated Special Schools. It is not enough. There are 62 public other basic schools that also practice inclusive education. That is not enough because the inclusive education policy states that we should accommodate most of these students in the normal classroom which is even going to put more pressure on the teacher. As a country, we haven't done well with special needs education. The assisting devices are even outmoded," he stated.
"God being with us, after this election, Nana Addo is ensuring that we pay particular attention to special needs school," he stressed.
