The Kellogg’s presents Sharks Quiz Season 4 sponsored by Indomie, saw Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast come out top beating Presbyterian Boys, Legon (Presec) at the finals.
The Sharks Quiz is an intense and exciting academic competition organized by Africa Schools Online and sponsored by Kellogg’s with major support from Indomie.
For emerging as champions, Wesley Girls High School has presented a gold-plated trophy that represents a golden book of knowledge, a money prize of GH¢10,000 and other items from sponsors.
Presec-Legon, took home GH¢5,000 as second prize winner in addition to other items from sponsors, while St. Augustine’s College (Augusco) in Cape Coast and Sonrise Christian High School in Ho, tied for the third place and received a money prize of GH¢2,000 each and other items from sponsors.
Selasi Dzimeku, representing the Minister of Education at the event spoke on the importance of STEM education and how competitions such as The Sharks Quiz ignites the interest of students to follow STEM paths. He added, the Ministry of Education is focused on improving STEM education in the country and will soon come out with initiatives at the basic and high school levels to close that gap. “STEM is the future and we must embrace it, he added:
With the two schools tied on 75 points apiece in the final round, Weygeyhey got the tie breaker right to send the entire Studio B auditorium at TV3 into raptures, becoming winners on their debut. Presec-Legon were the champions from the last edition and were aiming at winning the contest back-to-back. But the all-girls’ school made sure that history was not made as they rather wrote their own history.
At the Juniors level, defending champions Ghana Christian Internationhistory beat Vine Christian school to retain the trophy.
The competition is organized annually to test students on core competencies: Literacies, Numeracy, STEM and Social Literacy. Kellogg and Indomie have committed to support the program because it seeks to develop young people for a better future, which are values that both brands hold on to strongly.
