Rev. Lartey Adotey Memorial School, at Adabraka, have won the finals of the Accra Brewery PLC “Beta Malt flip It challenge.”

The school was presented with GH¢10,000 cash and 25 cases of Beta Malt.  Ashaiman No. 3 Primary School placed second and were given GH¢7,000 cash and 20 packs of Beta Malt, while Flagstaff House Basic School took the third position.

They walked away with GH¢5,000 cash and 15 packs of Beta Malt. There were consolation prizes for all 10 competing schools in a form of souvenirs and packs of malt. The “Beta Malt flip It challenge” was launched in September 2022 at the 5 Garrison school at Burma camp with 150 participating schools in Greater Accra.

The occasion was graced by the Head of Services Basic, Jeffery Adjei - Ministry of Education PR Executive, Reps from Recycling Partners (Mckingtorch Africa, SESA and), creative arts teachers from 7 District educational offices in Accra and employees from Accra Brewery PLC.

The 3-phased competition for selected basic schools challenges competing schools to turn used Beta Malt plastic bottles collected into usable materials.

The finale was held at Flagstaff House Basic School in the Greater Accra region. It took the form of an exhibition event to allow the selected schools an opportunity to showcase their creative works. As a school-based challenge, the various schools were to pitch against each other with their creatives from recycled PET bottles to win.

The judges and guests were impressed with innovative and beautiful pieces of artefacts presented by the pupils and their teachers such as Aero Planes, an Aquarium, plastic dress, and the winning project a Summer Hut.

There was an array of activities with performances from students of Flagstaff primary on the negative effects of poor sanitation and the need of recycling.

Chuka Nnaobi, Country Marketing Lead at Accra Brewery PLC stated that, “this challenge seeks to develop the creativity of the children while encouraging us to take care of our environment by converting waste plastic into useful artefacts”. He also spoke on the sustainability phase of the upcycling challenge and its extension to Senior High Schools.

Beta Malt is a non-alcoholic malt beverage, made with pure malt and fortified with vitamins A and C. Beta Malt has, since its official launch in 2015, proving its mettle in the non-alcoholic Malt market, enjoying enviable patronage among many Ghanaians.

Besides its functional and nutritional benefits of being a nourishing true malt, the Beta Malt brand has assumed symbolic importance, carving a niche as a brand that inspires, encourages, and empowers enterprising, vibrant young Ghanaians to reach for greater heights in their various fields.
