2 Bodies Collaborate To Launch Project To Promote Practical Stem Education

Asustem Robotics Academy,a non-profit organization in Ghanathat seeks to inspire children, youth and working individuals on a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to exploring STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math’s) subjects through projects featuring robotics, engineering, computer coding and tech modules has launched a new projectdubbed ‘TransforME Project’ to promote STEM education.

The TransforME project which is being held in partnership with Lenovo (the world’s leading PC company) and Asustem Robotics is aimed at equipping the youth and working individuals with STEM education whiles inculcating Arts as well through technology as an effective learning tool in the 21st century.

The project which is being held under the theme: ‘Developing the Youth and working individuals in Ghana with 21st Century Job Skills’ is being embarked upon in a road show across the 16 regionsof the country and is targeting about 1,500 beneficiaries including children, the youth and working individuals. Program modules will includeRobotics, Machine Learning, Arduino, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Python Programming, Electronics and Website Development.

At the inauguration ceremony held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Mrs Nana Achiaa Asumadu-Boateng, a co-founder of Asustem Robotics and the Director responsible for operations said“Asustem was committed to actively train children, the youth and working individuals to meet trending and innovative technologies and for this reason our tagline; ‘Inspiring Young Minds and Developing Creative Thinkers for the 21st Century Job Skills’.

The TransforME project, she informed, seek to inspire young minds and develop creative thinkers who will be innovative and embrace new trends of technology. She hoped that at the end of the entire roadshow participants will be more informed and passionate to develop their skills along technology and even start their own businesses.

Mrs. Nana Achiaa Asumadu-Boateng on behalf of her outfitthanked their international partners, Lenovo, Motorola for their supportand their local partners;Ghana Library Authority – Koforidua, Ghana Education Service, PeopleSence, Genius IT Foundation and PWEB Consulting Group for coming on board to support a good course.

On his part, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Asustem Robotics, Mr. David Asumadu – Boateng said “our mission is to develop and prepare the young ones of Africa by providing them with practical STEM empowerment programs that will enable them to be developers, creative thinkers, and innovators for the African continent. We are currently seeking for corporate partners who will be willing to partner with us on this TransforME project as we prepare our project beneficiaries for various sectors in Ghana.

Mr. Evans Korletey-Tene, Eastern Regional Librarianwho represented the Ghana Library Authority said the Authority has a vision of connecting Ghanaians to knowledge resources which is being achieved through the introduction of innovative programs, as such partnerships with stakeholders like Asustem Robotics Academy is in the right direction.

“STEM education has been at the core of the current education regime and the Ghana Library Authority in its bid to provide relevant information has set up STEM study hubs in some of our libraries and some selected Senior High Schools. These hubs have been stocked with modern stem materials to drive the course”, he said and commended Asustem Robotics Academy for the novelty.

The Eastern Regional Library, he informed is a beneficiary of the Youth Engagement Centre project which aims at providing the convenient space for the Youth in Koforidua with the focus of providing peer to peer learning, career mentorship and job matching support as well as digital entrepreneurial skills. “These services are in line with what we seek to commence here today and it’s my hope that after this training the beneficiaries can just walk in here and master it in life”.
