Citizens of Agona in the Sekyere South District, resident in South Africa, have donated quantities of syringes, hospital gloves and benches worth GH¢2,800, to the Agona Government hospital.

The donation is part of continued efforts by the citizens to help improve on the facilities at the hospital to enable it to offer quality health care for the people.

Dr Sarfo Kantanka, leader of the group, who presented the items, commended the management and staff of the hospital for their sense of commitment, dedication and professionalism.

He said Agona residents in South Africa have pledged to do all they could to assist the facility with the needed equipment and technical support.

Plans are underway to mobilize some of their members, who are in the medical field, to come down and provide free medical services to the people.

Dr Kantanka appealed to the management of the hospital to embark on outreach programmes, to educate the people on the need to seek frequent medical checks to ascertain their health status, for early treatment.

Mr Osei Acheampong, Director of Research of the National Health Insurance Authority, a native of the town, who coordinated activities for the donation, said citizens resident in other countries are being encouraged to contribute to the growth and development of the hospital.

Those in the United States, United Kingdom and other European countries were also planning to send items and equipment to the facility.

Dr Lamech Aboraa Addo, Senior Medical Officer in-charge of the hospital, thanked the citizens for the gesture and said the hospital would be raised to district status.

He appealed to the chiefs and people to sustain their assistance to quicken the pace of attaining district hospital status.
