Some staff of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have started a strike to back demands for payment of salary arrears. The workers, made up mostly of accounting staff, pharmacy technicians, mortuary assistants and orderlies, say the hospital management has refused to pay the outstanding salary arrears for 2008.
They also claim that a salary increment of 17 per cent from last year has not been implemented. Until management assures them of full payment of the arrears for 2009, the workers say they will continue to lay down their tools.
The striking workers say their management paid two-thirds of arrears from 2008 but have yet to pay the remainder.
